The Louisiana Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals, LA/SPCA was chartered in 1888. It is the oldest and most comprehensive animal welfare organization in Louisiana and one of the oldest in the United States, providing care and basic medical services for approximately 11,000 homeless and companion animals each year. The mission of the LA/SPCA is to advocate for and protect the animal community through high quality service, compassion, strong leadership and innovative programs. The LA/SPCA is dedicated to the prevention of cruelty to animals and to the promotion of respect and humane care for animals through programs and services including: Animal Sheltering, Animal Services, Adoption, Humane Education, Advocacy, and Cruelty Investigation. In 2012, the Louisiana SPCA will positively effect 15,000+ animals; sterilize 8,000+ companion animals; impact thousands of children and adults through Humane Education programs; and provided low-cost clinic services through the areas only high-volume affordable spay/neuter Community Clinic.
